Helena Bireley is a maker, surface pattern designer, and illustrator currently living in beautiful Livermore, CA. She grew up in a charming small town located in the Southern part of the Czech Republic.
In 2016, Helena graduated with BFA in Graphic Design from California State University East Bay. After working as a designer for several years, she decided to start working on her own line of illustrated products.
Helena has set up a studio in her home and started to create vinyl, wood, and paper cutouts inspired by Czech folk Art.
In 2020, Hela Crafty a one-woman operation was born. She added illustrations, paper goods and textile patterns to her portfolio. Her fun colorful illustrative style is infused with humor and joy for wide range of people. Helena takes inspiration from different cultures around the world, nature, seasons, travel, and European folk art. You can often find her browsing in a vintage store looking for textiles, imaginary folk art, and children’s book.
If you are wondering, Hela is my nickname, and since my childhood I was a crafty girl. I always wanted to be an artist, maker, and baker. My grandmother taught me how to sew, knit, and create ideas from unconventional materials.
