I like natural materials and I’m always in search for vintage Christmas decoration. When I’m looking for ornaments, I keep in consideration their weight. Often fresh christmas trees have thin branches and heavy decorations tend to bend them. I decided to make few ornaments for myself this year with a vintage spin. This is my first wooden ornament I cut on my Glowforge®. Inspiration for this design came from an old oversized vintage wooden ornament my grandmother hung in the window when I was a little girl. Even though the ornament was a large size it was light and span in the window flawlessly.
Design Space contour selection
For Cricut® users I used card stock paper purchased in the local craft store. Image comes as compound path and it will appear as a single layer in Design Space. To use only the contour of this design (background) select contour icon in right bottom corner in Design Space. Select Hide All Couture button and then click on outlines you want to have visible.
Glowforge® Setting
For this project I have used 1/4” thick walnut board from Home Depot.
At speed 135, 140 it worked well, but in some areas the wood wasn’t cut through and I had to push a few pieces through.
I usually do little bit of sanding to make the wood smooth and finished it with clear (semigloss) coat of varnish.
