Few weeks ago, I created my first mandala and I wanted to do a spin off of it. For a while, I have been admiring artists on Pinterest creating amazing art with doilies. They stretch the doily onto a wooden round frame and decorate the frame with ribbons of fabric or feathers.
The principle of creating a pattern for a doily or mandala is practically the same. They both use radial symmetry to form repeating patterns. Upon my extensive Pinterest research, I picked a couple of doily images for inspiration. To give this mandala a different look, I decided to make it onto a dream catcher.
Originally I had in mind that this design would be cut out of vinyl for T-shirts, bags, etc. But as I was finishing this project, I decided to make some alteration for a paper cut out.
One design multiple Cuts:
You can use this design multiple ways by using separate layers one at the time. You can cut the whole design or only top part as mandala, invert the design to use as a stencil for card making. If you decide to use Cricut® for paper cut, I would recommend to go large so the lines are thicker.
